3CORD INC. TO PRESENT PLAN FOR NEW HOPE ELEMENTARY CHARTER SCHOOL TO YORK CITY SCHOOL BOARD THIS WEDNESDAY
Jay Young, CEO of CXO Thoughts Consulting in York, to serve as new school‟s board president
YORK, Pa. (Jan. 11, 2011) – 3Cord Inc. will present its plan for creating a new elementary charter school to the York City School Board at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, in the Board Room of the Administration Building, 31 N. Pershing Ave., York. 3Cord Inc. presented a baseline K-5 curriculum to the York City School Board in November, and now seeks final charter approval.
New Hope Elementary Charter School forges a partnership between 3Cord Inc. and the YWCA York with the goal of providing high quality educational and social services for children from birth to fifth grade. If approved, the first kindergarten class would begin this fall. A grade would be added each year until reaching final capacity in 2016.
“We have developed a unique early childhood-through-elementary school model to combat the educational issues that plague urban communities including York City,” said Isiah Anderson, managing partner of 3Cord Inc. “Children are leaving our early learning centers prepared for school and then are failing in our city‟s elementary schools. That‟s unacceptable. By partnering with the YWCA York, we are taking a „whole child‟ approach, by making sure our children receive not only rigorous academic instruction but also the social service support they need to become better learners.”
Having achieved the highest level in Pennsylvania‟s Keystone Stars program, the YWCA York provides outstanding early childhood education to approximately 300 children from birth to age 5.
“Our partnership with 3Cord Inc. is about closing the achievement gap between early childhood education and elementary school,” said Debra Stock, CEO of the YWCA York. “We can‟t send kids off to kindergarten and brush our hands of them. We need to be committed to following them through college and beyond. It‟s a model that‟s working for the Harlem Children‟s Zone in New York City, and we believe it‟s a model that can work here.”
New Hope Elementary Charter School will provide the supports to consistently maintain and increase high academic achievement throughout the elementary years. This will be accomplished by:
